OUR INSTITUTION

History

The Universidad Autónoma Carmen Carmelita arises from Liceo, opened March 15, 1854 in the current historical city center. After 113 years of educational activities, in 1967 the Campeche State Government decided to transform and build a university on the island, this university was called Universidad del Carmen.

The August 28, 2013 Dr. José Antonio Ruz Hernández took over as president of the school following the resignation of its previous one, Master. Sergio Augusto Lopez Peña. The rector was elected for the period 2013-2017 following approval of 15 votes councilors out of a total of 17 in a special meeting of the University Council UNACAR. Previously, Dr. Ruz Hernández was serving as coordinator of the Faculty of Engineering UNACAR.
